Today is recall Election Day in California. This recall election for incumbent Governor Gavin Newsom is currently the most popular and divisive topic of conversation in California communities. To some, the recall effort is a partisan and unnecessary waste of state funds and resources in a time when everything is running smoothly, while others view the recall as a necessary and long-overdue act in order to return California to more stable conditions.
Two of the top Republican candidates on the recall ballot are long time talk show host Larry Elder and State Assembly Member Kevin Kiley. If one of them is elected, they would be the first Republican governor in the state of California since Arnold Schwarzenegger.
Governor Newsom has the support of both the President and Vice President of the United States who have both flown to California, on separate occasions, to show their support. Newsom and his contenders stances on wildfires, homelessness, and the COVID-19 pandemic, are all expected to play a vital role in the direction of the polls.
